The Salar is Huge! Covering some 4,000 square miles.
I have visited before in June the Dry ( & extremely cold) season.
Bear Blog - Bolivia 2008
This time its the middle of wet season, & just two days ago it was 75% covered, & today after all night rains it was 100% covered with water.
Very very weird, as the reflections are incredible, the sky is blue over the salar, but thunderstorms round the edge - All very surreal.
In fact NASA use it to calibrate their satellites as its flat to within a few centimetres & when wet its the largest mirror on earth - Wow!
Our 4x4 drove in to the salt pyramids where locals dig out the salt to sell for your dinner table, & then it was shoes & socks off for a few hours of paddling in a very salty lake.
