I have experience of walking and trekking and have been a young leader in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme, teaching teenagers how to navigate, set up camp and first aid skills, amongst other things. I have experience of both canoeing and kayaking (kayaking to BCU two star level), on the rivers, and the sea around Cornwall, and on the inland rivers of France. I have enjoyed surfing for many years now and look forward to experiencing foreign conditions. Cycling has been an interest of mine since my early teenage years both on and off road, and I have competed in both cross country and downhill races, and have kept this up since, as a means of transport and recreational activity. My experience of rock climbing upon the granite rocks of Cornwall and the gritstone of the Peak National Park, as well as the indoor facilities around these areas has given me the necessary confidence when faced with heights and would feel comfortable when in tree canopies or bungee jumping. I have traveled extensively, from the dusty deserts of Oman, to the tropical islands off the coast of Malaysia, have crossed the United States and have travelled in Europe a great deal. With my experience of the activities on offer, my interest and appreciation of the varied and diverse cultures of the world that I have so far encountered, I feel that I would be the ideal candidate and look forward to embarking on such an adventure come September.
