The northern-most tip of the world's wildest continent is incredibly lush by Antarctic standards, able to support a hugely diverse variety of plants and animals. During the summer, humpback, minke and occasional blue whales come to the bays around the Antarctic Peninsula to gorge on pink krill. Albatross, skuas, gulls and penguins are also seen in huge numbers, feasting on the rich pickings from the sea.

The jury's out as to whether any of us should be visiting this pristine environment.
