While Sat in my Apartment in Cusco tonight I herd the familiar sound of a band marching past the road at the end of my road.

There are four or five fiestas a week pass my door, so Actually I am quite casual about them now, & I almost ignored it. But there was a lot of noise, so I opened the curtains to have a look.

The whole street was buzzing with light & colour with about 500 kids marching along with brightly coloured paper lanterns in every form and shape - Wow!

I grabbed my camera & ran off to intercept them & see what was going on.

Turns out its was The Mariscal Gamarra Local School's 51st Anniversary today - so time for a celebration.

The whole school had been making lanterns all day, & one boy told me he had been three days making his, as it was huge & very elaborate.

They were simple, yet very effective, made from bamboo, & paper, with a candle inside which gave a pleasant warm glow.

I took plenty of pictures & before I knew it I was actually in the school playground - opps.

One of the teachers I had spoke with, asked to see some of the pictures, & I told her I could email them to her, but she did not know the address for the school.

Then I was whisked into a classroom by Nadia, one of the parents, for hot chocolate with the kids & to introduce myself!

It was a big thing as in the 51 years I was the first Gringo to visit the school, so it was interesting all round.

They all laughed when I told then my name was El Oso....The Bear.

Then I was taken to several more classes to see more of the kids, & to say "Hola"

I wrote the Nat Geo Adventure address on the boards, as even if the teachers did not know the email address, the kids for sure knew computers, & would all be looking right here tomorrow,  without fail.
