Ramblers and outdoor enthusiasts love walking holidays and their popularity continues to grow with many tour operators offering ‘walking’ holidays to popular Mediterranean locations slightly out of season – after all – do you really want to be walking all day in the hot August sunshine?
One current offer on the cards is offered by Ramblers Worldwide Holidays, which has a 15 day tour of ‘undiscovered Corfu.’ The package blurb highlights that this holiday is away from many of Corfu’s popular resorts and ‘focuses on the island’s beautiful interior – which is perfect walking country.

Concentrating on ‘The Corfu Trail’, a long distance footpath which snakes its way from north to south, covering about 136 miles, the tour takes in mountains, cypress and olive groves, a profusion of flowers, ancient villages, monasteries, gorges, valleys and spectacular beaches.
The holiday begins on the east coast at Benitses before ending at Corfu Town itself. The 15-day package costs £1,160 and includes return flights, transfers, half-board accommodation (dinners at local tavernas) and the services of a tour leader.

If you like walking and exploring new countryside routes, or are travelling alone and want the re-assurance of a group, then I’m sure this holiday will be great, but if you are independently minded you could take the same holiday for a lot less, with considerable flexibility.

For example, easyJet sells flights from Corfu to London in April from £37.58, outward flights from £68, with taxes included. So, you could get to Corfu for £100, leaving you with £1,000 to spend on accommodation and food. A quick web search found hotels and accommodation in locations like Benitses from just 35 eruos per night. So if you have a good map, a group of you and are looking for the flexibility that comes with planning your own travel adventure then I’d probably pass on the Rambler’s Worldwide Holidays offer and opt for an independent travel adventure instead.
