Kibatangan river is on the eastern coast of the Sabah region, Borneo, Malaysia. It is very quiet in terms of traffic and people (quite off the beaten track) - the sounds from the wildlife is incredible. It takes just over 2 hours to get there from Sepilok, and the place I stayed at was lovely, right on the edge of the river - basic accommodation, the staff were extremely friendly and the food delicious!
We were lucky to see some wild orangutans on our river 'cruise' and lots of proboscis monkeys. If you are lucky you can see pygmy elephants and crocodiles. A night jungle trek was exciting and there are numerous types of birds to be heard and seen. WATCH OUT FOR THE LEECHES! They will get you!
