Transport in Vietnam was plain CRAZY!

There were hardly any cars, but millions & I mean Millions of motorbikes, or more like scooters.

There is one rule it seems - There are NO rules!

The first time I tried to cross a road I waited & waited ........ and waited.

There is just no let up, & no way across. Eventually someone came to my help, and guided me across the flow.

The method is to just walk slowly across, do not hesitate, do not stop & do not change pace. Sounds easy, but you have to trust that thousands of bikers will pass round either side of you.

And even to ram home the point my guide closed his eyes as he led me across the street - TRUST!

After a few goes I had it sorted, but it never felt comfortable, ignoring the years of teaching my mother gave me about the green cross code!

Also its defied belief just what they could get on a bike.

It was normally the family transport so Mum, Dad, & two kids was normal, but then on the back (where!!) they would load up complete shops, bags & bags of kit & i have no idea how the front wheel stayed on the ground.

My best bike sight,  was the whole family (Mum, Dad & small child & a baby) with 2 huge pigs strapped behind, bales of wood for a fire & 2 huge bags of something the size of a man........

More than I would put in a car even.

Nuts
