Marriott International has been voted the best hotel chain in the world by readers of Business Traveler magazine.
One of the world's most important authorities in the industry, Business Traveler issues nine editions around the world and its Readers' Choice Best in Business Travel Survey is held in high esteem.
In addition to picking up the award for the best hotel chain in the world, Marriott was voted the best hotel chain in North America and was considered to have the best hotel website.
Other major awards this year include the best overall airline in the world, which went to Singapore Airlines. Singapore also won the award for the best airline for international travel as well as the best economy class in the world.
Richard Branson's Virgin Atlantic Airways scooped the award for the best business class in the world and Emirates fended off competition to collect the award for the best first class in the world.
The best airport in the world, according to readers of the magazine, is Singapore Changi International, which is based approximately 20 kilometres from the commercial city centre. With 80 airlines hosting more than 4,000 flights a week to 57 countries around the world, Changi Airport is central to the south-east Asia region and is particularly useful for passengers flying from Europe to either Australia or New Zealand.
While Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts has been named the best luxury hotel chain for business travel, the Peninsula in Chicago has scooped the coveted award of best individual hotel in North America.
The best hotel chain in Europe, meanwhile, is Sofitel Hotels & Resorts, thanks to bases in the likes of Amsterdam, Athens and Paris.
